1. Getting Started

1.1. About This Guide

This guide describes routing protocols including multicast, RIP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, and route policies provided by the router and presents configuration and implementation examples.

This document is organized into functional chapters and provides concepts and descriptions of the implementation flow, as well as Command Line Interface (CLI) syntax and command usage.

The topics and commands described in this document apply to the:

  1. 7450 ESS
  2. 7750 SR
  3. 7950 XRS

Table 1 lists the available chassis types for each SR OS router.

For a list of unsupported features by platform and chassis, refer to the SR OS R14.0.Rx Software Release Notes, part number 3HE10818 000x TQZZA.

Command outputs shown in this guide are examples only; actual displays may differ depending on supported functionality and user configuration.

Note:

This guide generically covers Release 14.0 content and may contain some content that will be released in later maintenance loads. Please refer to the SR OS R14.0.Rx Software Release Notes, part number 3HE10818 0004 TQZZA, for information on features supported in each load of the Release 14.0 software.

1.2. Router Configuration Process

Table 2 lists the tasks necessary to configure RIP, OSPF, and IS-IS, and BGP protocols, and route policies on the 7450 ESS, 7750 SR, and 7950 XRS. This guide is presented in an overall logical configuration flow. Each section describes a software area and provides CLI syntax and command usage to configure parameters for a functional area.
